Raffia palms (Raphia) are a genus of about twenty species of palms native to tropical regions of Africa, and especially Madagascar.
A dense evergreen indigenous tree that will attract birds to your garden and provide ample shade throughout the year. It is a fast grower and will tolerate heavy winds and drought conditions even though it naturally prefers to grow along river banks. It can also grow in very wet conditions and handles salt laden winds well. An ideal tree for kids as the fruit is edible and there are no thorns on the tree. A perfectly rounded crown can be expected with an interesting bendy trunk that has an “old look” to it. Ideal for wind and privacy screening along boundaries, especially in coastal area
